It's because most poor booksellers make minimum wage. And why should they care that much when they're making $7/hour? Then you have high turnover because how could you get loyal, long-standing employees when you pay them so little!

It is frustrating to customers. I'm always so happy when I ask a question in a chain store and they actually know the answer!
